Electronic Club

As an average Hobbyist and Arduino enthusiast the Arduino .com resources are plentiful on the net and supply appreciated general information. But after visiting many forums I found some to be helpful with others light on content. I also continue to read that the in-the-trench Hobbyist is dwindling with micro component technology limiting hands-on workbench development. Some of this I agree with but all excuses aside there remains plenty of DIP components for hands-on experimenting and micro-controllers such as Arduino only add to design advancements.
With all that said, my point is years back there were many resources for electronic projects for learning tools and brain storming forums. If there is a passion for what one has interest in as for instance the Ham radio clubs what happen to the electronic Hobbyist passion?
If anyone reading this has information on local electronic clubs to share common interests, please share.
