Custom (non-random) Discount Codes

Why isn’t it possible to customize the codes used by customers to receive discounts? Seems like a pretty basic feature, can’t imagine why the codes have to be the random characters assigned by Tindie.

It would be much better if the codes could be set by the store owner, so they can reflect

  • Who is using the code
  • Where they got the code
  • What the code is for

If I want to offer a 15% discount to anyone who sees my product on Hack-a-Day, HACKADAY15 is a way better code than 678D8A2. Only supporting random codes is silly.

Thanks for the suggestion. We haven’t had a request for this type of feature before. I will bring the suggestion to the Engineering team and see where on our list of improvements we could fit this in.

It really would be quite nice, and I can’t imagine there being a big technical challenge that would prevent it. I can already regenerate as many random codes in a row as I want, I just can’t write my own in the box.

This kind of creator functionality is supported on Squarespace:
